Cowboys Named ‘Landing Spot’ to Sign Pass Rusher Emmanuel Ogbah
At the very least, the Dallas Cowboys may address their enduring Super Bowl dilemma this off-season by signing a free agent who is familiar with the terrain of the championship.
The Miami Dolphins want to release seasoned pass rusher Emmanuel Ogbah in a budget-friendly film, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Since entering the league as a second-round selection in 2016, Ogbah has accumulated 42.5 sacks, and during the 2019 season, he and the Kansas City Chiefs earned a Super Bowl ring.
The Oklahoma State graduate will have many of suitors, and according to Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports, there’s a potential Ogbah may rejoin the Cowboys. Dajani bases this on the theory that if players left the Dallas front seven, the team may go to the experienced ledgers for reinforcements.
“The Cowboys have several free agents on the defensive line, including Dorance Armstrong, Dante Fowler Jr., Johnathan Hankins, and Neville Gallimore,” Dajani writes. “Dallas is undergoing a change on the defensive side of the ball with Dan Quinn now in Washington, but new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer is still going to want to bring in experienced players who can get after the quarterback.”
Dajani Ogbah’s wish list now includes the 49ers of San Francisco and the Cleveland Browns, where he played his NFL rookie season from 2016 to 2018.
The Cowboys have always taken great satisfaction in their ability to pressure the quarterback, and Micah Parsons has helped the current squad embrace this trait. The addition of Ogbah would certainly enhance this reputation. Dallas has intercepted a quarterback 141 times since Parsons joined the team in 2021, which is tied for the fourth-highest number in the NFL during that time.
Ogbah returned from a triceps surgery that kept him restricted to nine appearances in 2022, and he assumed a deeper position on the Miami depth chart. With Ogbah’s release from a four-year, $65 million contract, Miami will save eight figures against the cap.
With his injury combined with losing snaps to young rising talents like Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips, the Cowboys would in theory be able to get Ogbah on an affordable deal. … but of course Dallas has its cap concerns as well, especially as the Cowboys want to eventually lock down their own edge star in Micah Parsons.
