ESPN declined to air the replay of the Browns’ season-ending knee injury because it was so severe. The team lost to the Steelers.
ESPN broadcasters Troy Aikman and Joe Buck revealed the severity of Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb’s injury.
In the first half of their Monday night loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 26-22, Chubb was tackled while running close to the goal line. He instantly grabbed his left leg. Although it didn’t look good at first, the announcers later revealed that it was far worse than it seemed.
During the ABC broadcast, Buck stated, “I’m told the replay of Nick Chubb getting injured is not to be seen.”
The stadium screen showed the replay as Buck was saying it, and the fans let out a loud groan in response.
Indeed, we will not be displaying it.
As Chubb was being hauled down by another defender, Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick struck him low. His knee bent awkwardly as a result of that.
Chubb went down and was carried off the field. Buck stated on the broadcast that as he headed toward the locker room, Steelers supporters who had seen the replay yelled his name and gave him an ovation.
The Brown was declared out right away because of what the team described as a knee issue. The next play saw Chubb’s backup, Jerome Ford, score, although the jubilation was understandably restrained.
Then, following the game, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski validated everyone’s fears. The “significant” knee injury that Chubb sustained ended his season, however specifics remained unknown. When Chubb was tackled close to the sideline and landed awkwardly, he suffered a serious knee injury while playing for Georgia in his collegiate career. That happened to the same left knee he hurt on Monday night during the 2015 campaign. Chubb was selected by the Browns in the second round of the draft and made a comeback appearance for Georgia in 2016 and 2017.
Chubb is a vital component of the Browns’ offense and one of the top running backs in the NFL. Last season, Chubb recorded a career-high 1,525 running yards and 12 touchdowns—his fifth in the NFL. In the Browns’ season-opening victory over the Cincinnati Bengals last week, the 27-year-old gained 106 rushing yards on 18 touches. On Monday night, he was down with 64 yards on 10 carries. With the Browns, Chubb is in the second year of a three-year, $36 million contract.
Ford gained 106 yards on 16 carries in the end, and throughout the evening, he caught three passes for 25 yards and a touchdown. This season, he’ll probably take the lead in the ground game because Chubb is out. Ford, 23, is a

King stated unequivocally that this was just his own conjecture, and it’s important to note that his guess contradicts the widely held insider theory that the Bears will select USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the first overall choice and trade Justin Fields.
General manager Ryan Poles may receive a substantial haul by dealing the first pick, which would position the Bears to compete quickly. King suggests the idea may have more merit than the fanfare around Williams.
“Suppose GM Ryan Poles traded the top pick down one spot to Washington (which would take Caleb Williams), and got the second pick, a second-round pick and a 2025 first-round pick in return,” he stated. “So let’s say the Poles sent Atlanta the second selection at
