Celtics backup big man reacts to Xavier Tillman trade
Chicago It was only logical for the Celtics to acquire Xavier Tillman around the trade deadline in order to bolster their defensive depth as well. Tillman was an inexpensive addition to strengthen the roster, even if he won’t necessarily be a rotation staple or even a starter.
Conversely, Luke Kornet provided the C’s with a reliable third big man already. Throughout the regular season, the 28-year-old has been a dependable option, offering both size and productivity. With Tillman joining the team, there will be some competition for Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford’s third big man role. But Kornet doesn’t necessarily see it that way, since it hasn’t always been the case throughout his time in Boston.
“To tell the truth, That is not really a concern of mine at all,” Kornet remarked. “We are thrilled to have Xavier join us, and I believe he brings something special to the team, particularly with his versatility in the postseason and other things I think are very significant. We’re glad to have him on the team and look forward to working with him. I appreciate the aspect he offers to our group.
Given the Celtics’ present situation, Kornet’s response is not surprising. This year’s squad has made sacrifices in all areas, whether it be in terms of shots or other conventional counting numbers. The C’s five starters could probably all find better places to average than they have, but they have embraced one another instead since there hasn’t been much controversy on the team.
Kornet’s response so aligns with the team’s current philosophy. Jayson Tatum brought up the big man himself after the Celtics defeated the Bulls on Thursday.
“I adore Luke,” Tatum declared. “He is the ideal member of a team. The ultimate expert. He’s always ready, but he never knows when his turn will arrive and he’ll receive minutes. He is always aware of the strategy. He will take care of everything.
Since being dealt to Boston three years ago, Kornet has surprised the Celtics with his performance. Despite being considered a throw-in to the trade, he persisted in being on the roster. He maintained his preparation even while he was putting in work at the G-League at the beginning of the 2021–22 season. Kornet has established himself as a candidate as their third big man, rewarding all of that work.
Therefore, the big guy will handle it no matter how the C’s bring Tillman in and how it would impact Kornet. That has been the situation for the previous few years under his C.
“He will blend right in.” Kornet spoke highly of Tillman, saying, “With us and the type of group that we have.” “Since he clearly didn’t have the chance, it was good to get his first opportunity to play today. forward to watch him perform more and more. That’s similar to being able to provide that extra something to the group.
