Pittsburgh — Cam Heyward, the starting defensive tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers, is expected to be placed on injured reserve as a result of a groin injury he sustained in Week 1, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
During the San Francisco 49ers game, Heyward exited the field early. He attempted to come back, but was helped off the field after just one play. At that point, he was declared out of the game.
Heyward is a possibility for injured reserve (IR) and will probably miss many weeks due to the injury, according to Rapoport. Right now, he is weighing all of his alternatives, including having surgery.
In Heyward’s absence, the Steelers would start Keeanu Benton, Isaiahh Loudermilk, or DeMarvin Leal. Although Benton and Leal may play defensive tackle if necessary, Loudermilk is presently listed as the backup.
Wide receiver Diontae Johnson, as well as offensive lineman Chuks Okorafor and James Daniels, are among the several injuries the Steelers are currently dealing with.

The release of center Mason Cole was confirmed by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday.
Pittsburgh will save $4.75 million as a result of the cost-cutting measure, which includes Cole’s $3.25 million 2024 salary and a $1.5 million roster bonus. The Steelers were only $8.47 million under the salary cap as of Friday.
Cole, who turns 28 next month, spent his two seasons with the Steelers starting all 34 games in the regular season and one in the postseason.
After the 2021 season, Cole became an unrestricted free agency and signed a three-year, $15.75 million contract with Pittsburgh.
He played three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals after being selected in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Cole was a member of the Minnesota Vikings prior to his release as a free agency in 2021.
Over his six NFL seasons, Cole has started 73 of 94 games.
