NFL star who’s earned $4m during career lands new Detroit Lions contract after being left unemployed last season
THE Detroit Lions have re-signed kicker Michael Badgley to a one-year contract.
Badgley was part of the Lions team that last month won their first playoff game in more than three decades.
Badgley was part of the Lions team that last month won Against the Los Angeles Rams, he tied a postseason franchise record with a 54-yard field goal.
The kicker, who was scheduled to enter unrestricted free agency next month, has now returned to Detroit.
Three days after the Tennessee Titans fired him, on August 30, of last year, Badgley signed a contract to join the Lions practice squad.
In December, he was added to the active roster.
Since making his NFL debut in 2018, Badgley has connected on 98 of 119 field goals while playing for the Los Angeles Chargers, Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans, Chicago Bears, and Lions.
In 2022, Badgley also played 12 games for the Lions as a kicker.
Over the course of the regular season, he converted 13 out of 15 extra points and four out of four field goals.
After that, Badgley converted all three of his field goals and all eleven of his attempted extra points in the postseason.
The Lions enjoyed a memorable 2023 season, but one that ultimately ended in heartbreak.
They won the NFC North with a 12-5 record.
Their historic win over the Rams saw Detroit fans in tears in the stands.
It was a first playoff win for the Lions since the 1991 season.
A week later, it got even better when they beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Divisional Round.
But they lost a big lead in the NFC Championship Game, going down to the San Francisco 49ers.
