In addition, by selling or cutting Bakhtiari, the Packers may clear up a ton of cap room. I expect a release because teams know the Packers would cut him if they can’t trade him, but you never know what the Jets will do to help Aaron Rodgers close to home.Following the Packers’ transfer of Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets, there have been whispers that Bakhtiari would indeed come. Bakhtiari was reportedly on Rodgers’ list of potential teammates—a list he disputes even exists. By now, everyone knows that in terms of salary cap hit in 2024, Bakhtiari has the most of any player on the Packers roster. Even if Green Bay decides to keep him, he won’t be on the roster for that sum due to his cap charge of little less than $40 million. As Schneidman points out, it’s more likely that the team moves or releases him.
When/if they take this action, they will save around $21 million, with a dead cap impact of almost $19 million.
