ZION WILLIAMSON, THE NBA ROOKIE’S POSSIBLE MVP WINNER, SAYS VICTOR WEMBANYAMA: “HE’S AN AMAZING PLAYER”
Zion Williamson has firsthand experience with what it takes to be one of the NBA’s most highly respected young players. He congratulated his opponent, French youngster Victor Wembanyama, who was vanquished by his New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night after they overcame the San Antonio Spurs. He projected that in the future, in addition to being a defensive master, he may win several MVP awards.
Star player Zion Williamson of the New Orleans Pelicans asserts that Victor Wembanyama has what it takes to dominate the NBA, saying of the young Frenchman, “we haven’t seen nothing like that.”
With the San Antonio Spurs, the 20-year-old rookie has already left a lasting impression on North America. As he begins to play more minutes following his return from injury, many are curious about how far he will go in the game.
On Friday night, Williamson’s Pelicans upset Wembanyama’s Spurs by a single point, but even though they prevailed, Williamson remained certain that he was up against a future great.
“Wemby is a very special player,” he declared. We were just discussing it in the changing area. He’s a guy that has the potential to win two or three Defensive Player of the Year titles. In addition, he can win MVPs because we haven’t seen something like that before, and I don’t want to place restrictions on it.Things have gotten close, but not quite that close. He’s a fantastic talent, and I believe that with “Popp” [Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich] in charge, he will only become better.
“Not ready for a championship,” Shq and Barkley said of the Celtics after their shocking loss to the Lakers. Westbrook hits 25,000 points in an NBA record as the Clippers defeat the Pistons.
Curry is listed among the NBA All-Star reserves, while Wembanyama is left out.
Williamson led the Pelicans to a 114-113 victory over the Spurs with a commanding performance. Wembanyama finished with 28 points and 14 rebounds, while he scored 33 points and pulled down eight rebounds.
GOBERT SAYS AFTER LEAVING OUT OF ALL STARS, “DISRESPECT”
The Orlando Magic defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 108-106 in another game played on Friday night.
Karl-Anthony Towns scored 19 points, while Rody Gobert led his team in scoring with 22, tying Anthony Edwards for the lead.
Towns and Edwards have both been selected for the upcoming All-Star games. Gobert, a Frenchman, praised them both but said he was no longer shocked that he had not been selected.
“It’s not the first time I’ve been disrespected or taken advantage of,” he stated. When the day is over, I’m glad I get to take a little vacation.
