Regarding Ben Johnson, the Washington Commanders, and the interview that transpired between the two, there’s a lot of drama in the air.
According to ESPN, Johnson was put off by Commanders ownership because they are “basketball guys” who might be overconfident in their knowledge of football. Johnson is still the offensive coordinator for the Lions and is still in Detroit. Conversely, the same story claimed that Johnson’s performance during the interview was subpar.
NBA Hall of Fame point guard Magic Johnson, who in addition to winning five titles with the Lakers during his playing career also boasts MLB, WNBA, and MLS titles as an owner, is part of the Commanders’ relatively new ow
Washington is still looking to fill the position of offensive coordinator. Dan Quinn, the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons and former defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys, was hired by the Commanders to fill the head coaching position.
Johnson, on the other hand, is going back to Detroit, where he had a great season last year. In the first half of the NFC championship game, the Lions scored 24 points against the 49ers, proving they were among the finest offensive teams in the NFL. Regretfully for Johnson and company, the Lions ended up losing 34–31 after scoring just seven points in the second half.
Johnson won’t be taking over as head coach this season, but he’ll undoubtedly be a strong contender come offseason. JustI wouldn’t put money on him moving to Washington anytime soon.
