The Boston Celtics are reportedly exploring trade opportunities after acquiring Kristaps Porziņģis, with free agency set to begin on Friday. Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens is also exploring potential trades for Malcolm Brogdon, who was on the verge of being traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in a three-team deal that included the Washington Wizards.
Boston restructured the trade, transferring Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies and Porziņģ to the Celtics from the Washington Wizards.
Brogdon is under contract for two more seasons with $22.5 million annual salaries. However, the deal fell through due to Brogdon’s significant health issue, which may prevent him from being included in short-term trades. The Celtics must also decide about restricted free agent Grant Williams, who the Cleveland Cavaliers are monitoring as they seek more frontcourt help.
The Celtics, having reached the Eastern Conference Finals in three out of four seasons, are still aiming to win their first title since the 2007-08 season.
