SANTA CLARA — George Kittle and the 49ers have one shared goal every season: Win the Super Bowl.
certainly haveThey come close. San Francisco was 5:10 away from hoisting the franchise’s sixth Lombardi Trophy almost four years ago against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV at Hard Rock Stadium and of course, we know what happened in those final five minutes.
In the waning moments of the 49ers’ crushing Super Bowl defeat, Kittle stood on the sidelines and made a promise to himself.
“I’ll be right back here. Four years ago, Kittle promised himself, “I will return, and I will return with a vengeance.” “You will not get the best of me, no sir.”
The video went viral and is coming up on social media as the 49ers start a new playoff run each season.
A dejected Kittle set a goal for himself at that very moment. He had aspirations of winning the Super Bowl again and going back one day. After four years, Kittle and the star-studded 49ers club have elevated it from a goal to an expectation for each season.
Kittle and the 49ers are getting ready to play the Green Bay Packers in the NFC divisional playoff round on Saturday at Levi’s Stadium, following their first-round bye. They are only two victories away from making a comeback to the largest stage in professional sports, but Kittle doesn’t think that the video’s reemergence will inspire him to keep the promise he made to himself.
When questioned on Wednesday over the video, Kittle responded, “It doesn’t really take a lot for me to get motivated.” “Until we went and didn’t win in 2019, I had no idea what the playoffs were about. I am aware of the hunger and the sensation of urgency. Since then, I’ve kind of considered that to be unchangeable.
Is that something I look forward to every day? No. After seeing the video, do I feel like I’m getting fired up again? Although I wouldn’t say that, I still feel that way because it’s a memory of mine. I have been attempting to replicate that for the past four years, using every resource at my disposal. Simply anticipating that chance.”
Under head coach Kyle Shanahan, the 49ers have assembled perhaps one of the best rosters in franchise history. It is the most talented group they have ever had. We will view anything less than a Super Bowl victory as a complete failure.
Knowing what’s at stake, Kittle and the 49ers are under pressure to reestablish the franchise’s flag on the
