The World Grand Prix schedule for this week has advanced to the semi-finals at Leicester’s Morningside Arena.
To get here, three wins are accumulated, but two more are needed to take home the championship.
This is the first of three Players Series tournaments, with a top prize of £100,000 up for grabs.
Friday night’s World Grand Prix semi-final match between Judd Trump and Cao Yupeng is scheduled to take place.
After different schedule and preview of the semifinalsmatches on Thursday, the two advanced to the penultimate round.
first place While Cao had to rally from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Mark Williams in the decisive frame, Trump easily defeated Mark Selby with a score of 5-1.
The latter is still on track to win his first ranking title after making it to his sixth career ranking event semi-final.
Three times now, Cao has fallen short at the last hurdle, most recently in this season’s Snooker Shoot Out when Mark Allen defeated him.
Naturally, Trump is a frequent winner and is vying to win the World Grand Prix an unprecedented fourth time.
The 34-year-old’s victory this weekend would also be his fourth trophy from this campaign alone.
Due to his extensive experience, the Englishman is a clear favorite to advance to Sunday’s final.
It’s interesting to note that Trump and Cao had faced off in two prior ranking semi-finals, with one win each.
Ronnie O’Sullivan and Ding Junhui will compete in the second semifinal of the World Grand Prix on Saturday night.
O’Sullivan and Ding, who are friends off the circuit, have recently spent a lot of time together both on and off the board.
On the main tour, the two engaged in a few high-profile fights against each other before conducting some exhibitions together in Asia around the time of the New Year.
In December, O’Sullivan won his eighth UK Championship championship after defeating Ding once more in the opening round of the Masters last week.
