In the most recent installment of the New Heights podcast, which he and his brother Travis co-host, Jason detailed how Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni gave him permission to speak to the squad on Monday night about his future.
After the game, according to the All-Pro center, there was “too much emotion in the moment” for him to fully process the choice to retire.
“It’s just something that I think you know when it’s time to officially announce you know what’s happening in the future it’ll be done in a way you know that’s definitive and pays respect to a lot of people that have meant a lot to me,” Jason said.
Following the Eagles’ 9-32 defeat, there were speculations that Jason told his teammates he was retiring. These rumors led to Jason’s address.
Jason Kelce said to his brother, “I had a f***ing…” on their most recent podcast episode, but he was obviously overcome with emotion and was unable to continue the statement.
Jason averted his gaze and began to breathe deeply, as if he was attempting to hold back his emotions.
And Travis exclaimed, “Brother, hell yeah.” Absolutely, dude.

On the New Heights podcast, which Jason Kelce hosts with his brother Travis Kelce, the Eagles star shared what he told his teammates after Monday’s loss.
“I got belief in every single one of you guys,” Jason recalled saying in the locker room.
“Cherish the moments you have in this league.”
Jason said that in response, Eagles stars said they felt “sorry for him” if the wild card loss was in fact his last NFL game.
And so he told them: “Don’t feel sorry for me, motherf***er.”
On the New Heights podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother Travis Kelce, on Wednesday, Philadelphia Eagles star Jason Kelce gave fans an update on his future.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, following Philly’s 32-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild card round of the 2023 NFL Playoffs, 36-year-old Jason announced to his teammates that he was retiring.
As he addressed the reports on New Heights, the All-Pro center wasn’t prepared to declare that his storied career was coming to an end.
However, the six-time Pro Bowler acknowledged that following the Monday game, he spoke movingly to his teammates before appearing to choke back tears.
Jason Kelce shared his order at the venerable McDonald’s restaurant on X, now known as Twitter, after surprising his favorite employee with a signed jersey.
Jason, an Eagles player, said he was correct when sports reporter and former NFL player Ross Tucker assumed his order was a Sausage McMuffin with Egg.
“You f***ing know it,” stated Jason.
“A huge coffee, two sausage eggs, with cheese. Each and every time!”
The screen went black, revealing that the Kelce brothers had stopped recording since Travis was bothering Jason so much and they needed to move on the next day.
“Travis hit me in the feels a little bit, so we decided to postpone the show,” Jason explained.
“We began recording it on Monday night, and since I needed to calm down, we’re returning on Tuesday to finish everything.
“If there’s anybody who knows how to get under my skin it’s Travis Kelce.”
