Tottenham, which has already moved to sign Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin for head coach Ange Postecoglou, may still be active in the January transfer window.
Tottenham has made it clear what they intend to do with the January transfer window for the whole of the 2023–24 season and beyond. While Premier League teams have been relatively quiet in the transfer window, Johan Lange and Spurs moved quickly to bolster Ange Postecoglou’s team.
The first player to join Spurs on a season-long loan from RB Leipzig was Timo Werner, who the club can buy outright for £15.5 million at the conclusion of the season if desired. After arriving at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium two days later, Radu Dragusin had joined from Genoa in a move that was valued at £21.5 million plus an additional £4 million in add-ons.
Given that Postecoglou said last week that the Lilywhites are still very much in the running for the title, Tottenham supporters will be hopeful that Lange and the team’s transfer activity with regard to incomings does not end there. However, what else might occur in N17 prior to the deadline of Thursday, February 1 at 11 p.m.? football.london examines this.
Following their strengthening in attack and defense, all eyes will be on what Tottenham does in the middle. Although Postecoglou presently has less choices to deal with due to Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma being on international duty and Giovani Lo Celso being in the medical room, Spurs do have a number of options in midfield.
The outcome of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s situation this month may influence Spurs’ decision to acquire a midfield player capable of filling the No. 8 position. Since last summer, the Dane has been connected to moves away from N17, but the former Southampton player has not yet seen a trade materialize.
Spurs’ decision to sign a midfield player capable of playing in the No. 8 position may depend on what happens with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this month. Since last summer, there have been rumors that the Dane will be leaving N17, but the former Southampton player has not yet seen his transfer happen.
Tottenham is quite interested in Conor Gallagher of Chelsea, and Kalvin Phillips of Man City has been linked to the team recently. Football.london is aware, meanwhile, that Spurs are not currently considering a transfer for Phillips, a No. 6 player.
Spurs may consider signing gifted young players along the lines of Sarr and Destiny Udogie and then loaning them out once more. According to reports, Spurs are interested in signing Arthur Vermeeren, an 18-year-old who plays for Royal Antwerp. If an offer is made, it’s possible that Vermeeren may return to the Belgian team, much like what happened with Udogie and Sarr.
Between now and the transfer deadline, there may be a few potential outgoings because certain Tottenham players need to play regular football somewhere. After his loan at Manchester United was terminated and he returned to Tottenham, Sergio Reguilon appears set to sign with Brentford till the end of the season.
The Spaniard doesn’t seem to have much of a future under Postecoglou, thus moving across the capital will allow him to finish 2023–2024 with more minutes. What will happen to fellow Spaniard Bryan Gil is likewise a mystery.
The winger, who has now fallen even further in the hierarchy since Werner moved to Tottenham, has been linked to Fiorentina and Feyenoord. Gil did play in the 2-2 draw with Manchester United over the weekend, but after Dejan Kulusevski and Manor Solomon return and Son Heung-min returns from the Asian Cup, Gil’s chances of playing in the first squad will undoubtedly decline in the coming weeks.
