Seven-time global snooker champion Ronnie O’Sullivan’s mental health has come under scrutiny from Ali Carter as their bitter rivalry continues.
Despite O’Sullivan’s 10-7 victory over Carter in the Masters final on Sunday in London, the match was marred by contentious remarks made by both players afterward.
During their encounter at Alexandra Palace, Carter said that O’Sullivan had “snotted on the floor” and called the enthusiastic fans of his opponent “morons” for cheering while Carter was taking shots.
In response, O’Sullivan, who is still rated number one in the world at 48, went on an expletives-filled tirade directed at Carter.
“What he says doesn’t matter to me. Depending on the day, he says different things. Before his Grand Prix event first-round match, Carter told ITV, “I don’t think he even knows what is going to come out of his mouth at certain times.”
The two have a long-standing, intense animosity that erupted during their 2018 World Championship match when O’Sullivan shoved Carter across the table.
O’Sullivan’s rant was “under review,” the World Snooker Tour stated on Tuesday, declining to provide any other comments.
O’Sullivan received a £4,000 punishment in 2022 for bringing the sport into disgrace after using a “lewd and offensive gesture” twice, once at the World Championship and once at the UK Championship.
