SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KGO) — Monday night on ABC7, the Philadelphia Eagles takes on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the final Super Wild Card game of the weekend. The outcome may determine a future opponent for the San Francisco 49ers, but the team already knows who they’ll face in the divisional round this weekend: the Green Bay Packers. It’s a matchup between two of the league’s most historic franchises and everyone knows what’s at stake come Saturday.
“It’s win or go home,” 49ers linebacker Fred Warner stated. “It’s about how good can you play in those three hours. And that’s the team that’s usually is happy at the end of the year.”
This weekend at Levi’s Stadium marks the beginning of the red and gold team’s journey to Super Bowl 58.
“It seems like everyone is thrilled,” 49ers supporter Raj Melwani remarked. “Niners football is always fun, but playoff football is another level.”
But the Green Bay Packers, an old enemy, are in the path of that Lombardi trophy.
Without these colors visiting town, the postseason run almost doesn’t seem like a regular one for the fans.
Joe Leonor, a 49ers fan, remarked, “Just seeing that yellow and green and then that red and gold.” “Being a football fan and that tradition of football and it being the playoffs on top of that, it’s that whole tradition.”
This custom extends back to the 1950s, when
The victor of this game will hold the record for the most postseason victories in NFL history in addition to punching their ticket to the NFC Championship.
Former reporter for the Mercury News Mark Purdy recalls reporting on both the thrilling victories in the Bay and the icy games in Lambeau Field.
And this weekend, he’s looking forward to another occasion that will go down in history.
Purdy declared, “This is an NFL classic.” “Fans who want to go on an adventure should seriously watch the NFL. If you’ve followed the 49ers-Packers over the years, you’ve witnessed a ton of amazing football as well as a lot of drama, ups, and downs. There should be a lot of drama on Saturday as well.
