At the Macau Masters, Ronnie O’Sullivan dominated after forgoing Christmas at home for the occasion.
Ronnie O’Sullivan, who skipped his family’s Christmas celebration, triumphed at the Macau Masters.
Marco Fu easily eliminated Ronnie O’Sullivan from the Macau Masters invitational, preventing the Rocket from taking home the hefty £150,000 winner’s prize. O’Sullivan flew to Asia for the tournament during the holiday season, winning handily against Ding Jinhui on Christmas Day.
Two invitational events are being held in Macau, and O’Sullivan has been entered in the second one. He started the eight-player match perfectly, beating Ding 6-2 and recording two century breaks.
But on Wednesday, Fu defeated world No. 1 O’Sullivan convincingly, winning 6-2 to eliminate the Rocket from the competition. It implies that he forfeits the enormous sum of money that is given to the victorious player.
O’Sullivan was among a number of well-known darts players who exerted pressure on the World Snooker Tour to grant them permission to compete in China. Stars may earn significantly more money than they do in the UK with the enormous sums on offer.
However, O’Sullivan lost against Fu and lost the chance to take home the largest award. After spent his Christmas Day against Ding, it will be disappointing.
If he is not given the chance to play regularly in China, the 48-year-old is adamant that he would never play again. Snooker executives and their greatest players are at conflict about when they may participate in unofficial events in Asia; Barry Hearn, for example, is essentially telling any player who wants to play in China to get out of their contract.
Competitions on the World Snooker Tour frequently conflict with events planned in the far east.
