Boston Celtics TRADING For Kelly Olynyk According To Celtics Insider? Boston Celtics Trade Rumors
The Boston Celtics may be able to enlist the help of an old acquaintance in their pursuit of Banner 18.
The C’s are interested in getting back together with their former big man Kelly Olynyk, according to NBA insider Marc Stein. The 32-year-old, who currently plays for the Utah Jazz under former Celtics president Danny Ainge, spent his first four NBA seasons with Boston (2013–17).
After 28 games this season, Olynyk is averaging 7.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 41.8 percent from three-point range. Behind the frequently injured Kristaps Porzingis and 37-year-old Al Horford, he would provide the Celtics with much-needed depth in the frontcourt.
But the rise of big man Neemias Queta might persuade Brad Stevens and company to take a pass. Due to Luke Kornet’s injury, Queta has recently benefited from more playing time, recording two double-doubles in his last three games.
On paper, a reunion including Olynyk makes sense, but the veteran 7-footer is due $12.2 million this season. Due to their limited resources, the Celtics would have to give up another important bench player if they were to trade for him.
Stevens and the Celtics have plenty of time to decide how to best utilize their personnel going forward. February 8 is more than a month away from the NBA trade deadline.
