Alex Morgan, Star USWNT Forward, Sidelined with Season-Ending Injury
In a devastating blow to the US Women’s National Team (USWNT) and Orlando Pride, star forward Alex Morgan has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a serious knee injury.
The 32-year-old Morgan, a key player for the USWNT and a two-time World Cup champion, suffered the injury during a training session with the Orlando Pride on January 15. Initial tests revealed a torn ACL and MCL in her right knee, which will require surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation period.
“I’m heartbroken for Alex,” said USWNT head coach Vlatko Andonovski. “She’s a vital part of our team, and her absence will be deeply felt. However, we’re confident that she’ll make a full recovery and return to the field stronger than ever.”
Morgan’s injury is a significant setback for the USWNT, which is preparing for the 2025 World Cup. The team will now have to rely on other players to fill the void left by Morgan’s absence.
“Alex is a leader on and off the field, and her presence will be missed,” said USWNT midfielder Lindsey Horan. “However, we have a deep and talented squad, and we’re confident that we can still achieve our goals without her.”
Morgan’s injury is also a blow to the Orlando Pride, which is preparing for the 2025 NWSL season. The team will now have to rely on other players to fill the void left by Morgan’s absence.
“Alex is a key player for our team, and her injury is a significant setback,” said Orlando Pride head coach Seb Hines. “However, we have a talented squad, and we’re confident that we can still achieve our goals without her.”
Morgan’s injury is a reminder of the risks and challenges that athletes face in their careers. Despite the setback, Morgan remains optimistic and is already focused on her rehabilitation.
“I’m disappointed, but I’m not discouraged,” Morgan said in a statement. “I’ll do everything in my power to make a full recovery and return to the field as soon as possible. I’m grateful for the support of my teammates, coaches, and fans, and I look forward to getting back to doing what I love.”
The USWNT and Orlando Pride have both announced that they will provide updates on Morgan’s rehabilitation progress in the coming weeks and months.
