In a move that has sent ripples through the NCAA transfer portal, Duce Robinson, a standout wide receiver from the University of Southern California (USC), has committed to and signed with the Florida State Seminoles.
Robinson, standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 220 pounds, is the son of former Seminole Dominic Robinson, who played for Florida State from 2001 to 2004. During his two seasons at USC, Duce Robinson appeared in 23 games, recording 39 receptions for 747 yards and seven touchdowns. His versatility was further showcased with a blocked kick in 2023 and an interception return in 2024.
Before his collegiate career, Robinson was a highly touted recruit out of Pinnacle High School in Phoenix, Arizona. He was recognized as a five-star prospect, ranking as the No. 1 tight end in the nation and the No. 1 player in Arizona. In addition to football, Robinson was an accomplished baseball player, earning the distinction of being one of only three athletes named an Under Armour All-American in both sports, joining the likes of Kyler Murray and AJ Brown.
At Florida State, Robinson is expected to make an immediate impact on the wide receiver corps. His impressive wingspan and athleticism present a significant matchup challenge for opposing defenses. Head coach Mike Norvell expressed enthusiasm about the addition, stating, “I’m excited to welcome Duce…one of the most unique and explosive playmakers in the country.”
Robinson’s commitment comes at a crucial time for the Seminoles, who are looking to rebound from a challenging 2024 season that ended with a 2-10 record. His presence, alongside new quarterback Thomas Castellanos, is anticipated to bolster the team’s offensive capabilities as they prepare for the upcoming season.
This signing not only strengthens Florida State’s roster but also signifies a positive shift in their recruitment of legacy players, aiming to reverse recent trends and restore the program’s competitive edge.
