Injuries & Moves: Brebbia, White added to roster.
LATEST NEWS Sept. 1: RHP John Brebbia and OF Eli White added to expanded roster The Braves signed Brebbia to a Minor League deal on Saturday after he was released by the White Sox on Thursday. They then added him to their bullpen mix when active rosters expanded from 26 to 28 players on Sunday. Bullpen depth has become a concern, especially since A.J. Minter was lost a few weeks ago to a season-ending hip injury.
Brebbia posted a 6.29 ERA in 54 appearances after signing a one-year, $5.5 million deal with the White Sox in January. He’ll get a chance to prove himself while initially simply adding depth to the bullpen. Right-hander Daysbel Hernández will have more staying power when he likely joins the Braves bullpen later this month. He is a strong candidate for the postseason roster. White provides speed off the bench and another outfielder who can play in center. He has produced a .783 OPS in 23 plate appearances for Atlanta this year.
Aug. 31: 2B Ozzie Albies (fractured left wrist) not nearing rehab assignment Instead of accompanying the team on the current road trip, Albies remained in Atlanta to continue his recovery. Albies has resumed baseball activities, but manager Brian Snitker said the second baseman isn’t nearing a rehab assignment. When early evaluations showed Albies was healing faster than expected, there was some hope he might return during September’s first half. But if he doesn’t begin a rehab assignment within the next week, he likely wouldn’t return before the month’s second half. Albies has been sidelined since suffering the fracture while making a tag during a July 21 game against the Cardinals. • All Braves transactions.
10-DAY/15-DAY INJURED LIST 2B Ozzie Albies (fractured left wrist) Expected return: September Albies was placed on the 10-day injured list on July 21 after sustaining the injury in the top of the ninth inning against the Cardinals. He was injured trying to tag out Michael Siani stealing second when the St. Louis center fielder collided with his glove hand. Albies has resumed baseball activities, but manager Brian Snitker said the second baseman isn’t nearing a rehab assignment. When early evaluations showed he was healing faster than expected, there was some hope Albies might return during September’s first half. But if he doesn’t begin a rehab assignment soon, he likely wouldn’t return before the month’s second half. (Last updated: Aug. 31).
3B Austin Riley (right hand fracture)
Return date anticipated: October
On August 18, Riley was struck by a 97 mph fastball from the Angels, breaking his hand. He won’t be back before the postseason starts since he will be out for six to eight weeks. (Updated as of August 20.)
LHP A.J. Minter’s 60-DAY INJURED LIST (left hip inflammation)
Anticipated yield: Out for season On August 21, Minnesota underwent season-ending surgery to fix an impingement in his left hip. In 39 appearances this season, he had a 2.62 ERA, but in his last three appearances, he had given up a hit or walked half of the 16 hitters he faced. (Updated August 21st).
He was moved to the IL for 60 days on June 16 in order to create a 40-man roster spot for Grant Holmes. Última actualización: 10 de Agosto.
