Kelsey Mitchell Wins Against Connecticut Sun, Making History for Indiana Fever.
The Indiana Fever defeated the Connecticut Sun 84-80 in a close game, and Kelsey Mitchell’s impressive performance was a major factor in the team’s triumph.
Since the team selected Mitchell in the 2018 draft, she has proven to be one of the Fever’s top scorers. Throughout her career, she has averaged 16.6 points per game, and she has been nominated for two WNBA All-Stars in her final two seasons.
She is averaging 18.2 points per game this season with impressive shooting percentages of 37.3% from beyond the arc and 45% from the field. The trio has shown to be a reliable foundation of the Fever offense, especially with young stars Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston at her side.
Mitchell has benefited from Boston and Clark’s offensive support, which has made her more potent when she scores. She scored 23 points against the Sun defense, her fifth straight game of scoring in the 20s.
In Fever history, Kelsey Mitchell has the most consecutive 20-point games.
In terms of consecutive 20-point games, this set a new franchise record for the Fever, per StatMamba. Mitchell has been averaging 25.6 points throughout that time, making 49.5% of his field goals and 33.3% of his three-pointers.
The Fever star has been on a fantastic scoring run, particularly as they get closer to a postseason berth with a 15-16 record.
Now, Mitchell and the Fever will eagerly await their August 30 rivalry game against the Chicago Sky.
Before the Indiana Fever game, Caitlin Clark draws attention with her pregame attire.
Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark showed up to the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in stylish silver pants on Wednesday and helped lead her team to a narrow 84-80 victory
Both on and off the basketball court, Caitlin Clark guided the 15–16 Indiana Fever to a thrilling 84–80 victory over the 22–8 Connecticut Sun at home.
The former Iowa Hawkeye arrived to Gainbridge Fieldhouse wearing a chic ensemble that included glossy silver leggings and a short black crop top.
Fittingly, the popular X account Clark Report, which has been following nearly every move Clark has made on and off the court this season, called the outfit “a tin out of tin.”
The star guard’s ensemble this season has drawn attention in more ways than one. The Indiana Fever star looked chic in an Armani body-con dress during All-Star weekend.
For her squad, Clark’s performance on the court was even more crucial. She scored a game-high 19 points on 7–17 shooting, five assists, and five rebounds.
By scoring her 86th of the year to end a previous tie she shared with Atlanta Dream player Rhyne Howard, Clark also broke the rookie three-point record.
Nevertheless, Kelsey Mitchell emerged as the Fever’s leading scorer of the evening, surpassing her. The forward took the lead with 23 points, making 8 of 14 field goals with ease.
When questioned about her synergy with Clark during a postgame interview, Mitchell responded, “I think the best part about it is that our chemistry continues to get better.”
“I appreciate Caitlin’s contribution because, in addition to her pace and spatial awareness, she can light up the room. With someone like that, you have to be prepared when your number is called.”
In relation to the Olympics, Gabby Thomas and Simone Biles, both gold medallists, were present to support the Fever. Together, the two won six gold medals at the Paris Games: three for Thomas in the sprints and three for Biles in the gymnastics.
