José Alvarado gets placed on the Phillies’ restricted list while he attends to a personal situation.
CBS Philadelphia, PA José Alvarado, a left-handed reliever, was placed on the restricted list by the Phillies on Monday. The team stated that Alvarado left to attend to a personal situation.
On the 26-man roster, Alvarado was replaced by right-hand pitcher Michael Mercado, who was called up from Triple A Lehigh Valley.
In 56 bullpen appearances during the 2024 campaign, the 29-year-old Alvarado converted 13 of his 16 save opportunities, posting a 4.30 ERA with 25 walks against 52 strikeouts.
Since April 13, Alvarado has only walked one batter, a left-handed hitter, and has limited the other 65 batters he has faced to a slash line of.131/.185/.246 (.431, on average).The season has been inconsistent for the left-handed reliever, who has primarily struggled since the All-Star break. It’s unknown at this point when he will return to the Phillies.
On December 29, 2020, Alvarado was traded by the Tampa Bay Rays and Los Angeles Dodgers to the Phillies as part of a three-team trade. On March 13, 2012, Tampa Bay signed the 29-year-old as a free agent for the first time.
