Following the Fever Game, the Atlanta Dream made a huge announcement on the Caitlin Clark Effect.
The largest WNBA game crowd in Georgia history was surpassed when Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever marched into Atlanta.
State Farm Arena had 17,608 spectators enter the Dream, almost 800 more than the venue’s stated capacity. Due to high demand for tickets, the Atlanta Hawks played the game at their home arena rather than their regular one.
Atlanta was defeated 84-79 by the Fever. The Dream have dropped their last two games following their three-game winning streak upon their return from the WNBA’s summer Olympics break.
Even though they lost, they contributed to the growth of women’s basketball by drawing a large crowd for a prime-time Monday night game.
As the most viewed team on television, the Fever encourage other teams to sell out their venues when they visit the area. Clark, who entered the WNBA as the top pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, is largely to blame for this.
The Fever released a midseason report shortly before the league resumed play following the Olympic break. It showed that since Clark’s arrival, jersey sales had increased by 1,193%, ticket sales had increased by 264.6%, and corporate partnerships had increased by 225%.
Clark hasn’t just helped the Fever rise off the court. She was named to the WNBA All-Star Game, along with two other Fever stars, Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell.
All three players have turned the Indiana Fever into must-see TV. The Fever are scheduled to have 38 of their games nationally televised this season, and 10 broadcasts before the break set viewership records.
