US Open 2024: Roger Federer-Backed On Running Comes under line of fire for Iga Swiatek’s Weirdly Designed Kits.
The Roger Federer-backed “On Running” has long been criticized for giving players strange combination kits. Some of the kits that were provided for Iga Swiatek, the top-ranked player in the world, did not sit well with the fans. The tennis world is once again paying attention to the Swiss maestro’s sporting label ahead of the US Open. No, they haven’t shown off any eerie Swiatek designs—it’s just a humorous video that has gone viral.
Swiatek has been associated with On Running since 2023, but the fans have not been happy with the repetitive design of her kits. While the player herself has never expressed dissatisfaction, the Swiss company has faced a lot of flak from the fans for not putting enough effort into kit designing despite having signed the World No. 1.
Earlier today, a fan shared a video on X trying to portray how On Running comes up with the eventual kit design for Swiatek. The caption read, “On running designing Iga’s kits.”
Because of how vivid the final result of the entire procedure was, some people might have mistaken it for On Running’s video, but it wasn’t. Although Swiatek’s Australian Open and French Open uniform designs drew criticism, On Running hasn’t unveiled any new designs for the rising Polish tennis player. Following his bronze medal in the singles competition at the Olympics in Paris earlier this month, Swiatek is set to compete on the courts of New York. In the season’s final grand slam, her supporters would have preferred to see her dressed quirky, but that would all depend on Roger Federer’s book On Running.
When On Running’s apparel and shoe line was first introduced, it caused a stir in the tennis world. But the brand has fallen from grace after its early days, when players like Ben Shelton were emblazoned in its colors. It has, at least in the eyes of the fans, which is why they responded to today’s viral video despite the fact that the firm did not disclose it. Supporters responded to On Running’s “apparent” kit-design process with wonderful humor.
One fan commented on the viral video, saying, “That literally looks so hideous I can’t.” Fans have previously expressed disapproval of On Running’s wardrobe choices. Notably, the sporting label faced criticism from supporters at the 2024 Australian Open after replacing Swiatek’s outfit with all-white pieces. The supporters of the Federer-endorsed brand chastised the Pole’s outfit, comparing it to the Wimbledon dress code, and accused the company of lacking color.
Another fan hilariously remarked on the viral clip, stating that the apparel was “a waste of spaghetti,” while one user sarcastically commented, “lolz this is everything.” For those unaware, the Swiss brand has been embroiled in controversy lately for its ‘highly-priced’ shoes as well
Federer has a 3% stake in On Running and an estimated $300 million chunk to his name. But with growing criticism among fans, it wouldn’t be a surprise if, at some point, he reconsiders his association with the company. However, tennis stars like Swiatek and Shelton who endorse the brand certainly wouldn’t want Federer pulling out, as that would leave them in a fix. What do you think?
