11-Year NBA Veteran Makes A Highly Different Statement by Caitlin Clark.
Former Memphis Grizzlies guard Gilbert Arenas discussed UConn guard Paige Bueckers and Indiana Fever standout Caitlin Clark.
In her debut season, guard Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever has lived up to the promise. After being the top overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, Clark had high expectations going into the league, and he has more than lived up to them.
Although Indiana’s two-game winning streak was ended on Saturday with a loss to the Minnesota Lynx, Clark had yet another strong performance.
With her 23 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds in the game, Clark improved her season averages to levels never seen in WNBA history. Clark created history once more in this game, becoming the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 500 points and 200 assists.
Former NBA player Gilbert Arenas made a highly contentious claim about Clark during a recent episode of Gil’s Arena: she is not a better player than UConn guard Paige Bueckers.
Asking what the Fever would have done had Bueckers been in the 2024 WNBA draft, Arenas received a unanimous answer from his co-hosts that they would have still taken Clark.
“Because of the hype?” Arenas asked when his co-hosts said Indiana would have still selected Caitlin.
When the crew responded that Clark is the better player, Arenas said, “No she’s not. A better player?”
Although Bueckers is amazing and recently finished an award-filled NCAA season, Arenas’ assertion is highly contentious considering Clark’s WNBA performance.
If Arenas had only been discussing the 2023–24 college season, Clark would still have been the overwhelming favorite to be selected first overall even with Bueckers present in the draft because of her incredible performance.
An 11-year NBA veteran, Arenas made three All-Star and All-NBA teams before finishing his career with the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2011-12 season.
