With a blockbuster trade pitch, the Maple Leafs are acquiring star for $17 million.

During their Stanley Cup window, the Toronto Maple Leafs make a trade pitch that includes a great forward who was previously selected in the first round.

With the help of a new tool called PuckGM, users of the website PuckPedia can now construct their own transactions. One user suggested a deal in which the Maple Leafs would acquire Trevor Zegras in a multi-player trade with the Anaheim Ducks.

With Zegras joining Toronto, the trade would be a blockbuster as Toronto gains the most skilled player involved. The 23-year-old attacker, who is starting the second year of a three-year $17.25 million contract, was chosen ninth overall in 2019.

Zegras, a top-six forward with additional skill, could play center or on the wing in Toronto. The talented attacker played in just 31 games the previous season, scoring 15 points with 6 goals and 9 assists due to injury struggles.

Anaheim received three young players and a second-round selection in exchange, which is a good return. The main attraction of the return would be 22-year-old Robertson, who has requested a trade and can start in Zegras’ place. His age also meshes well with the youthful demographic of Anaheim.

In contrast, Holmberg, 25, can play as Anaheim’s bottom-six depth forward, while Voit, 21, has the potential to challenge for NHL playing time in the upcoming seasons.

Ducks Examining Proposals for Zegras
Zegras was expected to be a vital member of the Ducks’ core group and a crucial contributor. But he’s had trouble staying healthy, and his contribution to the club has decreased.

As a result, Zegras’ name has surfaced in trade discussions. According to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic, Anaheim general manager Pat Verbeek is considering offers for the former first-round selection.

“And finally, Trevor Zegras trade chatter has resurfaced. Verbeek would not comment on that, but other league sources suggest the Ducks are listening on him and would consider moving him in the right deal. They’re obviously deeper up front, which is why they could afford to move him. Listening to trade offers and deciding to pull the trigger are two different things. I would say TBD on that one,” LeBrun wrote.

Zegras has skated in 211 NHL games recording 55 goals and 99 assists for 154 points.

Maple Leafs GM Not Ruling Out More Moves

The Maple Leafs have yet to make a move to their forward group and with training camps set to open in September, time is running out to add.

Although Toronto focused on defense and goaltending in free agency, Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving is not ruling out making more moves before camp opens.

“I think we still have about five weeks left before camp. Furthermore, we’re not quite set. We’re always looking for ways to improve as a squad,” Treliving stated on TSN 1050’s OverDrive. “We’re going to examine everything at the end of the year, as I mentioned.” People can get enamored with the idea of “letting’s make a big change just to make a big change” at times. You may go out and make significant changes at the end of the day. It doesn’t seem sense to me to make a change merely to stand up and say, “Look at it, we made this big change,” if they’re not improving your team.
