Dallas Cowboys player mentioned as an unexpected trade contender.
The Dallas Cowboys have been discussing trades a lot lately, and for good reason. The notion of dealing great players like Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb is still floating about because the front management is unwilling to pay market value for them.
Anthony DiBona of the Pro Football Network has now added a fresh name to the mix. He suggested one player per team for a trade, with the Cowboys reportedly considering DeMarcus Lawrence. The front office’s incapacity to determine how to give Lamb and Prescott market value is the only reason for considering a trade. Although DiBona’s idea is unconventional, it all comes down to freeing up that cash to maintain their essential components.
By moving Lawrence, Dallas might really save $10 million, giving their young pass rushers more opportunities. In the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Dallas selected Marshawn Kneeland, possibly indicating the end of Lawrence’s career. Pro Football Network’s DiBonaMicah Parsons is well described by DiBona as a “foundational piece,” and the team’s youth, in his opinion, enables them to move on from Lawrence. Kneeland is not the only player on the Cowboys; Sam Williams had 8.5 sacks in his firsttwo times around. In 2014, Lawrence was selected in the second round and is now in the last year of his contract. Although he doesn’t log many sacks, he creates pressure like no other player in the game and excels at creating an advantage against the run. For this reason, he is frequently underappreciated.
From an analytical perspective, it might be better to release the $10 million, but Lawrence is worth more than his figures suggest. His departure would be noticed because he is a strong team leader, particularly if Kneeland and Williams are unable to stop the run.
