As things stand, the Castleford Tigers are expected to lose six players.
The Castleford Tigers appear to have settled into a groove recently. With victories over Catalans Dragons and St Helens in their last three Super League games, the team has doubled its season win total as they look to gain some momentum in the latter months of the campaign.
Tenth in the standings, Craig Lingard’s team is still nine points out of the play-off picture. As a result, even though they still have nine games left, all eyes will be on 2025 at Wheldon Road as they strive to keep improving. While the team must focus on recruitment, retention will also be a priority because six players are expected to depart. The players whose contracts with the Tigers are about to expire are listed below.
Broadbent Jack At the end of the season, Broadbent is expected to sign a permanent contract with Hull KR, confirming his departure. Under Willie Peters, the former Leeds Rhinos player joined the Robins in April on a temporary loan and has already made eight appearances for the team. The Liam Watts Under Lingard, the 34-year-old has been a consistent starter and has demonstrated that he can still have an impact through the middle, whether it is coming off the bench or at the beginning. According to reports, Castleford Tigers have the option to extend his contract by an additional year, and it appears that a decision will be taken later in the season.
Kibula Samy Kibula, who is only 24 years old, has had difficulty settling into permanent clubs throughout his career. Castleford is his seventh such club. He has played for the Batley Bulldogs on a dual registration basis for a significant portion of this season, and although the team has the option to renew his contract, it is unclear if they will. Brad Martin The forward’s tenure with the Tigers appears to be coming to an end since he hasn’t played for the team since May. Yorkshire Live reports that he has agreed to a contract with Leigh Leopards for the upcoming campaign.
Luis Johnson Johnson, who signed a one-year contract with the black and amber team last year, has participated in six games for the team. He was briefly with Featherstone Rovers this season, but he has played in the last two games for the team, starting off the bench in victories over the London Broncos and Catalans. Danny Richardson, who joined Hull KR on loan for the remainder of the season in May, essentially ended his career at Castleford. The half-back joined the Tigers in 2020 after leaving St Helens, but his playing career now appears to be in jeopardy. He has only yet made one appearance for KR.
