The Phillies’ home David Dahl added; Brandon Marsh (hamstring) on IL.
Outfielder Brandon Marsh of the Philadelphia Phillies was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Monday due to a right hamstring strain sustained during the team’s loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday. In the bottom of the eighth inning of the 5-4 home loss, Marsh, 26, seemed to be hurt on his leadoff single, but he stayed in and moved to second on a single by Nick Castellanos. Rounding second base, Marsh pulled at his right leg and signaled for the trainer. A pinch runner was then used to hoist him. Marsh described his hamstring issue as light on Monday. Right now, it’s a little early. We’re still working on diagnosing and treating it. Although there isn’t a set schedule, we hope to complete the task somewhat quickly.”
Marsh is hitting.265 in 52 games during his second full season with the Phillies, with six home runs and 26 RBIs. Since joining the league in 2021, the former Los Angeles Angel has played in 389 games, hitting.260 with 31 home runs and 157 RBIs. In tandem, the Phillies chose to sign Triple-A Lehigh Valley outfielder David Dahl to a contract. In the first game of a three-game series against Milwaukee, the team atop the NL Central, Dahl was in the starting lineup. It was his first major league match since San Diego’s game versus Arizona on April 4, 2023. His first major league home run since April 3, 2023, came off a solo shot in the fourth inning to give the Phillies a 3-0 lead in a 3-1 victory.
“David can hit,” Phillies manager Rob Thomson said. “Going into the offseason we talked about depth, and the front office went out and got it because there’s going to be injuries. … It’s a long year. Credit to our player-development system for keeping these guys sharp and get them going. It was great to see.”
Dahl said he didn’t have time to think about playing because he didn’t know he was in the lineup until he was arriving at the ballpark.
“I was just kind of hanging out at the hotel and watching Netflix when I got the call from [general manager] Sam [Fuld] that I was going up. So, I had to go over to the field and pack up and I didn’t find out I was in the lineup until I was 20 minutes away,” Dahl said. “I think it helped because I wasn’t sitting around thinking about it. I was able to just say, ‘Let’s go play.'”
