The Braves win 6-1 thanks to his six-inning shutout against the Mets. In the victory, Freddie Freeman hit a three-run home run.
2021: In exchange for 1B Bryce Ball, a minor league prospect, the Cubs trade OF Joc Pederson to the Braves. Pederson will end the game with seven home runs and a.249/.325/.428 batting line. In the postseason, he hit three additional home runs, two of which came in the Division Series and a huge one off Max Scherzer in the NLCS that helped the Braves win the World Series. MLB history: Nolan Ryan defeats the Tigers 6-0 while pitching his second no-hitter of the year. Ryan struck out 17 batters in a nine-inning no-hitter, which is a record. He did so eight times in a row, but just once in the last two innings.
In 1993, Cal Ripken becomes the first major league shortstop player to hit 278 home runs in his career. exceeding the record set by legendary Cub Ernie Banks. 2001: Umpires file a grievance against Major League Baseball, claiming that by monitoring total pitch counts, the commissioner’s office is forcing umpires to declare more strikes. Shea Stadium has cameras installed throughout the weekend to track each pitch as part of these efforts. Major League officials expect to have four more venues with the tracking system—which is similar to the one used on FOX’s broadcasts—by September. Currently, only two parks have it: Shea and Fenway Park.
