One player has withdrawn from the All-Star game, while the Atlanta Braves have added M.
Max Fried, the starting pitcher for the Atlanta Braves, is on his way to Arlington, Texas. MLB declared him a member of the National League All-Star Team on Saturday afternoon.
Fried was selected as an All-Star for the second time in his career; he made his debut in 2022. Due to an injury, Fried did not pitch in the 2022 match. He will have an opportunity this time around, but there are no promises he will play in the game on Tuesday.
With Fried joining Braves starting pitchers Chris Sale and Reynaldo Lopez in Arlington as well as outfielder Marcell Ozuna, the Braves now have four all-stars this season.
When the Braves pick three starting pitchers for a game, it will be the first time since 1997.
Ranger Suarez, a starter for the Phillies, will be replaced by Fried in the All-Star Game. Pitchers for the Braves and Phillies switched positions a little bit on Saturday. Lefty Christopher Sanchez of the Phillies was chosen earlier in the day to take Sale’s spot for the Braves. Sale has withdrawn himself from consideration to pitch on Sunday. A Brave was replaced with a Phillies player, and vice versa.
Suarez had originally planned to pitch in the All-Star Game before making the change. As of right now, no information is available on Suarez’s absence.
This season, Fried has made 18 starts, recording a 3.08 ERA, 1.157 WHIP, 135 ERA+, and 95 strikeouts in 108 innings thrown. In addition, he leads MLB with one shutout and two complete games.
Fried faced Arizona Diamondbacks hitters for six innings in his most recent start, giving up just one run and striking out seven.
On Tuesday, July 16, the 94th MLB All-Star Game will be held at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas. At 8 p.m. EDT, the first pitch is scheduled.
