Candace Parker calls Angel Reese “unbelievable” for shattering the double-double record.
After breaking her record last week, Candace Parker had nothing but admiration for Angel Reese, the rookie for the Chicago Sky.
Reese broke Parker’s record for the most consecutive double-doubles on Sunday when she recorded her 13th straight.
Parker stated, “I think it’s unbelievable what she’s been able to accomplish,” on Thursday at the 3:35 mark of the ESPYs. “Watching her enjoy people telling her she can’t and won’t succeed has been very fun. It’s been amazing to watch her develop this season. We noticed that she was a rebounding machine while she was in college. She also seems to have capitalized on people’s doubts about the translation, as evidenced by this first round.”
For over ten years, Parker’s record was set during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. However, Reese’s outstanding career debut has made her the new record holder.
Reese set a record on Sunday when she recorded her 13th double-double with 17 points and 14 boards. On Wednesday, she added another double-double to her record of 14 straight. She has 15 double-doubles this year in total.
The former LSU standout is putting up a great fight to win the WNBA Rookie of the Year award, with Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark probably the only player in her way with 11.9 rebounds and 14 points per game this season.
