The Atlanta Braves should select three third basemen in the 2024 MLB Draft.
Are these names in the hot corner going to be Atlanta Braves players?
The Atlanta Braves should target certain players at every infield position in the upcoming 2024 MLB Draft, as we have looked at over the past few weeks. Third base now completes the official infield picture for today.
Like a few other positions previously discussed, Austin Riley’s acquisition of third base means that the team does not necessarily have the greatest need coming into this year’s draft.
But given that the Braves have the DH spot, there’s still a chance that they’ll look at third base come July—possibly even in the first round. Here are three names they should be paying attention to, should they want to do so.
The Atlanta Braves should select three third basemen in the 2024 MLB Draft.
Tennessee’s Billy Amick
After batting for a .413 AVG at Clemson in 2023, Amick transferred to Tennessee this past offseason where he went on to slash .307/.389/.645 with 23 HR and 65 RBI for the national champions over the spring. A player who has also seen time defensively at first base, Amick is likely to come off the board at some point within the first round, and could be an intriguing option for the Braves at pick No. 24.
Miller Gage, Alabama
Miller is just another SEC college prospect to keep an eye on. Following a great single season at Alabama, Miller has all but guaranteed a first-round selection. Miller, who transferred from junior college, hit.381/.474/.702 with 18 home runs and 56 RBI. Defensively, he is experienced at several infield positions.
Gleed Dub (UC Irvine)
Last but not least, Gleed, who spent the previous three seasons at UC Irvine seeing action at every infield position, is a fascinating name to watch outside of the first three rounds. Gleed is coming off of perhaps his best collegiate season at UC Irvine, where he slashed.351/.469/.550 with six home runs and 35 RBI. Over that time, he has a career OPS of.856.
Could any of these three names find themselves in the Atlanta Braves organization after the 2024 MLB Draft? If not, here are a few additional third basemen that the Braves could target in the upper rounds: Carson DeMartini (Virginia Tech), Kale Fountain (Norris, NE), Robert Hipwell (Santa Clara)
