Oilers coach: playoff players McDavid and Draisaitl persevered despite injury.
Alberta’s Edmonton (AP) — During the Edmonton Oilers’ Stanley Cup playoff run, several of the team’s star players were sidelined by injury, according to coach Kris Knoblauch’s statement on Wednesday.
On Monday night, the Oilers fell to the Florida Panthers 2-1 in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final.
Leon Draisaitl remarked, “It’s obviously frustrating and disappointing.” Unfortunately, there is only one squad that has a chance to win. However, I’m rather proud of what we’ve accomplished this year.
Captain Connor McDavid was also playing with an injury, according to Knoblauch, while forward Evander Kane suffered a sports hernia. Draisaitl’s issues made the staff doubt if he could play.
“Leon battled things throughout the playoffs — ribs, hands throughout the playoffs,” Knoblauch said. “At certain times it was worse than others. There were games we weren’t sure he was going to play. But he fought through it and played very well in those games.
Knoblauch stated he didn’t have much information on McDavid’s secret injury and declined to comment.
