The Baltimore Orioles are urged to locate a new home for their veteran infielder.
While not a regular man, Ramon Urias is one of those guys who has participated in a good number of games.
“A change of scenery” is what Mark Feinsand of MLB feels Urias would “benefit from” at the MLB trade deadline.
The infielder has continued to be a supporting player for the Orioles, appearing in 31 of the team’s 63 games this season. Though not by much, he is expected to play fewer games this season than in previous ones.
The same feeling is evident when looking at his at-bat metrics.
He had a strange 2023 season, with a rise in hitting average and a decline in slugging.
For xBA, xSLG, and xwOBA, his campaigns in 2021, 2022, and 2024 are all within.03. One can infer what kind of output he will contribute season after season.
The Orioles just summoned up Connor Norby to play second base, with Jordan Westburg usually playing third rather than flipping between the positions.
Although Norby hasn’t started his career as a world beater, his youth gives him an advantage. Getting him to bat will be crucial. However, he has come up in a few trade discussions, which would mean greater playing time if Urias stays.
For Baltimore, trading the 30-year-old could make sense.
Their infield will only get more competitive as Jackson Holliday will eventually make his way back and Coby Mayo continues to impress in the minors.
He could be flipped for a veteran outfield bat or another reliever. He could also find himself in a package for a new starter, which has emerged as the biggest need for the playoffs.
The Mexico native won’t be the centerpiece of a major trade but he could be an attractive additional player next to a prospect.
