WE LOST EVERYTHING: As Clinton Gutherson Announces his date of Retirement…
Clint Gutherson, the captain of Parramatta, is seeking retribution, and he is aiming directly at Phillip Sami.
During Sunday afternoon’s see-sawing match at Bankwest Stadium, the Gold Coast winger publicly ridiculed the well-liked Eels fullback, setting off one of the highlights of the NRL’s opening round.
Sami executed a “Gutherino” post-try celebration, and it wasn’t missed, following his touchdown to give the Titans the lead at that moment.
Gutherson has already noted April 9 at Cbus Stadium as the date of the teams’ rematch in round five.
“We’re already back into it after four weeks, I’ve already looked,” a fervent Gutherson stated on Tuesday on the Big Sports Breakfast.
“I wasn’t even aware of it at the time; I was just a little irritated that he (Sami) had scored.”
A short while later, the Parramatta cult hero saw the replay on the big screen and commented on Sami’s “disrespect” before admitting that, when the heat of combat is off, the competitors are actually excellent friends.
Gutherson remarked, “It’s kind of a laugh and he said he just got caught up in the moment.”
The fans showered him with praise afterward, saying, “Look, if you’re going to do a little dance, you’re going to cop it.” It’s good for football.
“I think it enhances the game’s theater, and I adore it.”
