BREAKING NEWS: Tennessee Vols Land Hofstra Transfer Darlinstone Dubar
The Tennessee Volunteers have landed a commitment from Hofstra transfer Darlinstone Dubar.
Transfer from Hofstra, Darlinstone Dubar, has committed to the Tennessee Volunteers.
Darlinstone Dubar, a forward at Hofstra, led the Pride in scoring this season with 17.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. In his fourth season with the team, he guided them to a 20-13 record before using the NCAA Transfer Portal to use his last season of eligibility. This past weekend, he came on campus for an official visit and saw the traditional spring football game between Tennessee’s “Orange and White” players.
This offseason, the Vols lost guard Dalton Knecht to the NBA Draft and saw a player exodus via the transfer portal. In an attempt to cap off Tennessee’s record year with another, head coach Rick Barnes had to make some changes to this roster prior to the 2024 campaign. This past season, they made their second Elite 8 in program history, but they were defeated by the Purdue Boilermakers.
This past season, Dubar shot 53.9% from the field and, on 5.5 tries a game, 39.9% from behind the three-point line. He can put the ball on the floor and start his own offense at 6-foot-8 and 211 pounds.
For the first time in the history of the program, Tennessee aimed to make it to the Final Four. They performed admirably against the Purdue Boilermakers in both halves, but in the closing minutes, they were outlasted. Moving forward Zach Edey was a reliable option for Purdue to win the game; he finished with 40 points and 16 rebounds after frequently getting to the free-throw line. Edey made 21 attempts at free throws in total.
Guard Dalton Knecht of Tennessee had a successful game, scoring 37 points and making six three-pointers. Knecht was a projected lottery pick in the NBA Draft prior to the NCAA Tournament, and he has only improved his value over the last four games. His incredible season with the Vols is coming to a close. Allan Houston holds the record for most points scored in a single season in Tennessee, which he fell short of by 28 points.
Due to foul difficulties, the Vols frequently switched up their big men; when forward Tobe Awaka fouled out of the game, forward J.P. Estrella performed admirably. But there’s a reason Edey is a unanimous first-team All-American. Throughout the game, Purdue made a number of plays that gave them the advantage. As Tennessee’s incredible season comes to an end, they should be pleased of the work they did to achieve one of the school’s greatest runs ever.
