SHOCKING: Toti Made a Sad Statement after he signs new long-term deal wolves
Under Gary O’Neil, the 25-year-old is having his best season ever. He has settled into the left side of Wolves’ back three and is putting on steady performances in the classic gold.
Toti joined Wolves in September 2020 from Estoril, having started the sport later than many of his peers. He was loaned to Grasshoppers in Switzerland almost away, where he primed himself for a return to Molineux.
Toti, who shone in the Swiss Challenge League, ended his stint with Grasshoppers with 53 games and three goals. He also assisted his loan team in winning the league title and securing a spot in the top division.
In January 2022, Wolves was shorthanded in defenders, thus Toti was called up and made his Premier League debut in a 3-1 victory.
over Southampton at Molineux, and that’s where he stayed, going on to make five appearances under Bruno Lage that campaign.
Continuing into last season, Toti was used as an effective left-back during the season run-in, where his first goal arrived – a towering header against Aston Villa, which all but secured the club’s status in the Premier League.
Toti started the season as a substitute for Gary O’Neil, but after Manchester City lost at Molineux, the team switched to a back three, which marked a sea change. Since then, the defender has started every game and made his senior Portugal debut.
Toti earned his 50th appearance for Wolves during Sunday’s victory at Chelsea. His turn and pass for Hee Chan Hwang against Newcastle United was maybe the team’s assist of the season thus far.
“With Toti, you get someone who gives absolutely everything and provides different variation – his athleticism has given us real balance across the back,” stated sporting director Matt Hobbs. He’s an extremely cheerful, driven, and wonderful man to have around. He’s also now fully international.
“I say this a lot because these are the kinds of people we want to hire, but he’s really terrific around here and incredibly humble at the same time. He trains hard because he wants to be the best player he can be every day. Here, players have to earn contracts via their actions both on and off the field, and Toti has done just that.
“He’ll feel like kicking it. He knows that performing well with us is the greatest way to secure a starting position for Portugal. Despite his awareness that he still has a lot to accomplish, he will continue to strive because of his character. I am positive that he’ll keep improving for sure.”
