BirminghamLive brings you the latest Wolves news as Bruno Lage targets Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos
Wolverhampton Wanderers seem to be stepping up their activities in the market, and according to reports, Bruno Lage is drawing closer to making his first summer signing.
The Molineux team is reportedly in negotiations to sign Benfica attacker Goncalo Ramos, according to Mais Futebol. The Portuguese newspaper states that Wolves have “already started talks,” although contract negotiations are reportedly still in their early stages, so the deal is far from final.
The 21-year-old striker scored eight goals in 46 appearances in all competitions last season, contributing 12 goals to Benfica’s score. The Portugal forward scored in Benfica’s 3–3 tie with Liverpool at Anfield, and he made seven appearances in the Champions League.
Reports claim that Ramos has an enormous release clause of €120 million (£103m) in his contract, but Benfica will not be receiving a transfer fee anywhere near that figure this summer. Wolves boss Lage is keen to add to his attacking ranks before the start of the new season after youngster Fabio Silva left Molineux for Belgian side Anderlecht this week.
Raul Jimenez, Hwang Hee-chan are just two options Lage will have to choose from next season, and media reports in Portugal now claim that Wolves are targeting Ramos as a key addition to the squad.
