DeBoer: No cadence issue from Jalen Milroe after Ryan Day’s bad snap comments
During a Tuesday press availability, Ohio State football head coach Ryan Day praised former Alabama center Seth McLaughlin. He suggested that some of McLaughlin’s frequent snap issues during the 2023 season were actually the fault of Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe’s cadence.
McLaughlin transferred to Ohio State after the season, his final game at Alabama a Rose Bowl loss to Michigan where the bad snaps were a major factor.
“Seth’s snaps have been great,” Day said. “I know that was a little bit of a concern. I think that had a lot to do with maybe the cadence or whatever. But so far, he’s been doing great.”
Milroe remained at Alabama through the coaching change from Nick Saban to Kalen DeBoer and is the unquestioned starter five practices into spring football. DeBoer said during a radio interview on Wednesday that Milroe had thus far taken every snap with the first team.
On Thursday, DeBoer said the Tide hadn’t had any cadence issues thus far.
“I guess I only can really go off of what we’ve done right now, and we haven’t had any problems there,” DeBoer said. “We use our cadence and it’s the clap cadence. Jalen, all the quarterbacks have done a good job. I think, from what I see, we haven’t really had any problems at all.”
Alabama is scheduled to return to the practice field on Saturday. The Tide will wrap up spring with the annual A-Day game at Bryant-Denny Stadium on April 13.
