DONE DEAL: COWBOYS JUST SIGNED A HUGE DEAL WITH BENGALS STAR TEE HIGGINS…..
Jerry Jones is therefore envious of the loaded Eagles. A Bengals leak regarding Tee Higgins’ contract price has surfaced in the meanwhile.
Well, that makes sense.
There is a need for another elite receiver at The Star, since the 2022 Dallas Cowboys receiving room was virtually “CeeDee Lamb or bust” both in the regular season and the playoffs.
There have been several names mentioned as potential candidates, like Odell Beckham Jr. and DeAndre Hopkins, but here’s another one that might come as a surprise.
Tee Higgins, receiver with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Is it realistic for Dallas to sign Higgins from the Bengals? This is the reason he might be moving—we can see it.
Joe Burrow, the quarterback, and Ja’Marr Chase, the receiver, have big paydays coming from Cincinnati soon. As Burrow approaches the last year of his rookie contract, it’s widely expected that the Bengals front management will work this offseason to resolve his future.
Burrow might command a salary of more than $50 million a season, which would consume a significant portion of the Bengals’ salary cap given the market rate for quarterbacks. Chase, too? Although he started a year later than his quarterback, Chase will eventually be compensated similarly to one of the league’s best receivers.
Up to $30 million will be spent on the ballpark each season.
What then becomes of Higgins? He may be the one to make way as he approaches the final year of his rookie contract with the Bengals. Can Dallas now make a move?
Let’s start by pointing out that Dallas has effectively acknowledged the necessity given their very public courtship of Beckham Jr. and the rumors that Hopkins could be a viable alternative to relieve Lamb of some of the pressure to succeed.
But we also have to acknowledge that the Cowboys are having financial difficulties of their own, since Trevon Diggs and Lamb are now available for extensions. So, in order to accomplish all of this and avoid Hopkins (who is 30 years old), a certain amount of aggression would be required.
and Higgins, a 24-year-old who is a contemporary of Lamb and Diggs, to Beckham Jr. (age 30).
Higgins has played 14, 16, and 16 games in his three seasons, demonstrating his durability. In addition, he has demonstrated strong on-field performance. Twice has he over 1,000 receiving yards; the only season he hasn’t been over 100 receptions is during his rookie season, when he had 908 yards.
