Bayern Munich prioritizes ex-Chelsea coach ahead of Alonso to replace Tuchel
Rumors suggest that Bayern Munich is showing a strong interest in hiring former Chelsea and Tottenham manager, Antonio Conte, to take over from Thomas Tuchel, who will depart the German club at the conclusion of the current season.
It has been indicated in reports that Bayern’s preference for Conte as the replacement is higher than that of Bayer Leverkusen’s coach, Xabi Alonso, or any other likely candidate, considering him as the top choice for the role.
Conte has been without a managerial position since his dismissal from Tottenham around a year ago following an unsuccessful 17-month tenure in North London.
Despite this setback, the 54-year-old Italian is widely recognized as one of the most accomplished managers of his era, achieving four Serie A titles with Juventus and Inter Milan, as well as the Premier League triumph with Chelsea in 2017.
This season, Bayern Munich has faced a trophy drought and is at risk of concluding the campaign without a title for the first time since 2012.
The team’s elimination from the German Cup by a third-tier club and their current position trailing Bayer Leverkusen by ten points in the Bundesliga have further added to the disappointment.
Although they are still contenders for the Champions League, a competition they have previously conquered six times, they are set to face formidable opponents in the knockout rounds.
Initially, Bayer Leverkusen’s head coach and former Bayern player, Xabi Alonso, was considered the front-runner, but Bayern has seemingly shifted focus to Conte, anticipated to bring his successful track record and extensive managerial experience to the Allianz Arena, as reported by Italian outlet la Repubblica via talkSPORT.
Xabi Alonso, the manager of Bayer Leverkusen, could be named by Bayern Munich to succeed Thomas Tuchel, who may then rejoin the Premier League after leaving the struggling Bundesliga winners. In other news, Arsenal’s teenage star Ayden Heaven is drawing interest from many Premier League clubs, while Brentford’s owner, Matthew Benham, has listed the team for sale.
ALONSO PIONEERS THE BAYERN JOB
Thomas Tuchel has announced that he will be leaving Bayern Munich in the summer, and according to The Sun, Xabi Alonso is the front-runner to take his place.
