O’Neil disgusted by Robins’ behaviour in front of Wolves ball boy
Gary O’Neill, the manager of Wolves, called Mark Robins of Coventry’s actions “disgusting” when he celebrated his team’s incredible FA Cup quarterfinal victory in front of a 13-year-old ball boy.
With two goals in extra time, the Championship team upset their Premier League rivals to win 3-2 and secure their first-ever trip to the competition’s semifinals since winning it in 1987.
Following Haji Wright’s victory at the death, Robins displayed an uncommon display of emotion by rejoicing in front of the ball boy who had just irritated him.
In his post-game press conference, Robins extended an unprompted apology, but O’Neil claimed the adolescent was left feeling upset.
“I was disappointed, I waited for,” stated the Wolves manager.
After losing a close game, I was very respectful of them at the end and waited for them to wrap up their celebrations before speaking with Mark downstairs and congratulating them on a truly impressive effort.
He said he was sorry, but I found it terrible to rejoice in front of a small child when he was clearly unhappy. It shouldn’t have happened, but because we lost and it will sound bitter, I don’t have much to say about it.
“But I thought it was really important to speak to Mark about it because they are just kids doing a job.”
Afterward, Robins expressed remorse and acknowledged that he had allowed his feelings to control him.
“I have to apologize to the ball boy. He is a young child, and he had the ball in his hand when he dropped it and smiled,” he added, just before the winner entered.
“It truly irritated me, but since he’s only a child, I ultimately had to react. After we scored, I went to celebrate in front of him.
“I’m sorry to him. I rarely display emotion, so before it occurred, I apologized to I don’t usually exhibit emotion, but the FA Cup has that effect on you, he said.
