Bayern Munich striker Kane breaks another Bundesliga record
After injuring his ankle during Bayern Munich’s 5-2 victory over Darmstadt on Saturday, Harry Kane may pose an injury risk for England.
Just before halftime, Kane gave his team their second goal, shattering the record for most goals scored in a first Bundesliga season. However, the 30-year-old was replaced eight minutes later, and England’s next opponents are Brazil and Belgium.
“[Kane] twisted his ankle in the goal netting,” Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel stated on the team’s official website. Since then, he has been administering ice to it. There isn’t any news as of now. We’ll just have to wait and see, hopefully nothing too serious.
Kane said the following on X, formerly Twitter, after breaking the scoring mark for the German league: “Happy to smash a Bundesliga record but more crucially, a successful victory once more.
As Bayern defeated Darmstadt handily, Kane shattered the 60-year record and Jamal Musiala scored twice.
Since joining from Tottenham in the summer, Kane has scored 31 goals in 26 league games, surpassing German great Uwe Seeler’s record of 30 goals for Hamburg in 1963–64.
The win, which moves Bayern seven points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen, who host Freiburg on Sunday, maintains Bayern’s slender prospects of defending the Bundesliga crown. Musiala also contributed an assist to the victory.
“We intend to remain there. Praising “difference makers like Jamal on the pitch,” Bayern captain Manuel Neuer stated, “We worked hard to get ourselves some opportunities and we took them.”
However, the goalie expressed disappointment that his team had given up two goals to relegation-plague Darmstadt, adding, “We all need to work on it.”
Tim Skarke took advantage of some shoddy defense by Eric Dier to score and give Darmstadt hope for an upset after 28 minutes, shocking Bayern.
Before the half, Kane contributed to Bayern’s lead by setting up Musiala’s goal in the 36th minute and then scoring his own goal by rising to head in a cross from Joshua Kimmich.
Midway through the second half, Musiala added another, dribbling through after receiving a throw-in from Thomas Muller and putting the ball between the goalkeeper’s legs. Serge Gnabry sealed the victory with a goal shortly after entering the game, much like he did the previous week.
Mathys Tel of Bayern and Oscar Vilhelmsson of Darmstadt both scored during the last minute.
