Fletcher Cox calls it a career as another Eagles star retires
Although Jason Kelce’s retirement earlier this month garnered more notice, Fletcher Cox’s announcement is still a major setback for the Philadelphia Eagles.
On Sunday, Cox declared his retirement. That’s a six-time Pro Bowler and All-Decade team member from 2010 hanging it up. Cox shared the information on social media. He praised his family, Eagles teammates, Eagles supporters, and the organization itself in a moving statement.
The Eagles are losing two guys who were a key component of their success for the majority of the previous ten years with Kelce retiring on the offensive line and Cox departing on the defensive line.
Cox played for the Eagles for all twelve of his NFL seasons. Similar to Kelce, Cox played a significant role in the Eagles’ inaugural Super Bowl winning squad at the conclusion of the 2017 campaign.
In the 2012 NFL Draft, Cox was selected with the 12th overall pick, and it proved to be an excellent choice. He earned a first-team All-Pro once and made it to the Pro Bowl each season between 2015 and 2020. He has 70 sacks when he retires.
The Eagles have had a difficult few months. They disintegrated toward the end of the previous year, witnessed the Dallas Cowboys win the NFC East, and were thoroughly outclassed by the Tampa Bay Bucs in a wild-card playoff game. Two of the best players in franchise history retired during the summer.
The Eagles will need to change their ways fast. However, replacing Cox won’t be simple.
Fletcher Cox’s retirement won’t get the attention that Jason Kelce’s did earlier this month, but it’s still a big blow to the Philadelphia Eagles. Cox announced Sunday that he’s retiring. That’s a six-time Pro Bowler and a member of the 2010s All-Decade team hanging it up. Cox announced the news on social media. He did it with a heartfelt message that thanked his family, Eagles teammates, Eagles fans and the organization itself.

A fantastic franchise. I’m grateful. Fletcher Cox 👏
