Cowboys Named ‘Landing Spot’ to Sign Pass Rusher Emmanuel Ogbah
Cowboys Select Emmanuel Ogbah as Their “Landing Spot” to Sign Pass Rusher
After being cut by the Miami Dolphins, Emmanuel Ogbah may consider signing with the Dallas Cowboys.
If nothing else, the Dallas Cowboys might sign a free agent with experience winning the championship to help them with their ongoing Super Bowl problem this offseason.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Miami Dolphins intend to release Emmanuel Ogbah, a seasoned pass rusher, in a low-budget motion picture. Ogbah has amassed 42.5 sacks since joining the league as a second-round selection in 2016; he also won a Super Bowl ring with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019.
The Oklahoma State alum will have plenty of suitors, and Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports reports that there are Ogbah might decide to play for the Cowboys again. Dajani bases this on the idea that the Dallas squad may turn to their more seasoned players if players exited the front seven.
“Dorance Armstrong, Dante Fowler Jr., Jonathan Hankins, and Neville Gallimore are among the Cowboys’ free agents on the defensive line,” writes Dajani. “Dan Quinn’s move to Washington has caused a shift on the defensive end of the ball for Dallas, but Mike Zimmer, the new defensive coordinator, will still want to add players with experience who can pressure the quarterback.”
The San Francisco 49ers and the Cleveland Browns, where Dajani Ogbah spent his NFL rookie season from 2016 to 2018, are currently on his wish list.
The Cowboys have consistently tremendous pride in their ability to put pressure on the quarterback, a quality that Micah Parsons has assisted the current team in embracing. Ogbah’s acquisition would undoubtedly improve this reputation. Since Parsons joined the team in 2021, Dallas has intercepted a quarterback 141 times, which is tied for the fourth-highest total in the NFL during that span.
After undergoing triceps surgery in 2022, which limited him to nine appearances, Ogbah became more reliable and moved up the Miami depth chart. Ogbah’s four-year, $65 million contract is over, and Miami will save eight figures on the cap as a result.
In theory, the Cowboys would be able to acquire more snaps due to his injuries and the fact that young, developing players like Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips were able to receive Ogbah on a reasonable offer. Of course, Dallas is also concerned about cap space, particularly since they hope to eventually sign Micah Parsons, one of their own edge players.
