Former Warrior Otto Porter Jr. retires from NBA
An important player in the Golden State Warriors’ 2022 championship run declared his retirement from the NBA on Monday night. Otto Porter Jr. declared his retirement from the NBA after ten seasons.
Porter Jr. averaged 8.2 points on 46.4% shooting from the field and 37% from outside the arc in 22.2 minutes per game during his one and only season in the Bay Area with the Warriors, leading them to the NBA Finals in 2022.
In the NBA Finals against the Celtics, Porter Jr. started three games and finished with an average of 5.2 points, two rebounds, a steal, an assist, and 56.3% shooting from outside the arc per game.
The Washington Wizards selected Porter Jr. out of Georgetown in the first round of the 2013 NBA draft. Throughout his career, Porter Jr. also played for the Chicago Bulls, Orlando Magic, Toronto Raptors, and Golden State.

Otto Porter Jr., a big with the Utah Jazz who played for Golden State in their 2022 NBA championship, announced his retirement from the league on Monday, after an 11-year career.
The 30-year-old Porter, who has had difficulty staying healthy in recent seasons, announced his retirement in a statement issued through the Jazz. He stated, “Unfortunately, my body is not allowing me to play at the level that I expect of myself.”
Porter continued, “I’ve had the opportunity to fulfill my lifelong dream of playing in the NBA for the past 11 years.” “Winning an NBA Championship capped that dream!”
Prior to the 2021–22 season, Porter signed a one-year contract with the Warriors and demonstrated an important participant. In his 63 regular-season games with Golden State, he started 15 of them. He averaged 8.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and over 22 minutes per game while shooting 37% from outside the arc and 46.4% from the field.
Porter then made 19 appearances in the postseason, including three starts, and averaged 19.5 minutes per game. He contributed to Golden State’s Larry O’Brien Trophy victory with an average of 5.4 points and 3.4 rebounds while shooting 40.4% from outside the arc and 49.4% from the field.
Porter inked a multi-year contract with the Toronto Raptors in the next offseason. However, foot surgery cut short his first season in Toronto after only eight games. Then, this season, he was only able to play in 15 games for the squad as he recovered from the procedure and proceeded to treat a sprain of the knee.
