Cowboys interested in signing RB Aaron Jones
FRISCO: It doesn’t feel like it right now because Monday’s NFL free agency first day is largely focused on who is leaving or rejecting Dallas.
However, the Cowboys do have a plan to build their roster, right? They do, after all, require a running back?
Saquon Barkley won’t be that player. The Eagles are getting him to sign.
Tony Pollard won’t be that player. The Titans are going to sign him.
However, a new name has recently entered the picture. Now that the Green Bay Packers have fired Aaron Jones after trying to negotiate a pay cut, will the Cowboys actually give him a “urgent call”?
Thanks to a tip from the Washington Post, that was the early Monday word. And now CowboysSI.com is hearing from an NFL source that Jones has “interested” Dallas.
Do we anticipate anything happening here? You already know the answer if you’ve followed our coverage on the “scoops” that linked Dallas to players like Derrick Henry and Saquon Barkley; it’s all about the money, and Jones will have other suitors. However, that does not make Jones a poor choice.
I am 29 years old, and I get injuries now. However, the harm he caused them during the playoffs is a legitimate cause for concern for the Cowboys. In the playoffs, Jones ran for 118 yards and three touchdowns as the Packers defeated the Cowboys in the first round. Oh, and gained 108 extra yards in the 49ers’ victory over the Packers in the second round.
By the way, Green Bay won’t face any difficulties. The individual selected to be A.J. Dillon, Jones’ heir, will soon be eligible for free agency. This year is his 26th birthday, and he has personal injury fears. Josh Jacobs, a former running back champion, was just signed by the Packers from the Raiders. They now have a solution.
According to Spotrac, Jones’ current market value is under $5 million for a single year. That isn’t at all outrageous. It is true that the Cowboys require a running back. So we’ll set aside our well-founded skepticism for the time being and not laugh at the information we’ve received on Aaron Jones.
