The Lakers’ recent success is all the more remarkable considering that they have been shorthanded due to multiple players recovering from injuries. Jarred Vanderbilt and Gabe Vincent stayed out, and Christian Wood is currently recovering from a knee ailment.
The injuries to Wood and Vanderbilt are especially painful since they reduce the team’s depth in the front court. Los Angeles waived Dylan Windler and added Harry Giles III to a two-way contract because even Colin Castleton is out due to a fractured wrist.

However, he’s also someone at whom we may examine closely in order to incorporate him into the program. He just needed to find the appropriate program, and we have the instructors to try and assist him improve. I think he still has a lot of upside.
What appeared to be a bright professional future for Giles, who was picked in the first round of the 2017 NBA Draft’s first round. Before alternating between the NBA and the G League, Giles played his formative years with the Sacramento Kings.
Giles joins the Lakers with the intention of regaining his value after most recently playing for the Brooklyn Nets. The club needs additional size at the center position, so it makes sense that he signed even though it’s difficult to see him having any kind of impact the remainder of the way.
In blowout circumstances, the former Duke Blue Devil should play spot minutes, but expectations for his time in Los Angeles should be low.
