Newborn daughter impacting Dak in major way
Texas’s DALLAS There has been a lot of discussion about Dak Prescott’s future in a Dallas Cowboys uniform. He is “confident” that a new contract extension will be agreed to in the end, but his 2024 free agency starts with a much larger acquisition that will shape his future far more than football.
Speaking at an event co-chaired by the 30-year-old and Cowboys icon Troy Aikman for the Children’s Cancer Fund, an organization that is particularly dear to his heart and is now even more so, he finally revealed the information that many have been waiting months for.
Prescott and his mother, Sarah Jane, welcomed their first child into the world on Thursday, February 29. Yes, she is a leap year baby.
And if you’re a fan of numerology, take pleasure in the cosmic interpretation of Prescott, whose jersey number is 4, having a daughter whose birthday falls on the fourth of the subsequent month, and making the news.
“[Call her] Baby MJ,” the three-time Pro Bowler said, his smile large and dazzling enough to light up the entire city of Dallas.
With the birth of his daughter, he has elevated his already lofty sense of purpose to even greater heights. He played to make his late mother, who he lost to disease, and his late brother, who he lost to suicide, pleased via his accomplishments.
“It feels different,” Prescott remarked. “Awakening in the morning and observing that baby, you know what’s expected of you. And all of the things I’ve always desired for myself, but you now have even greater desires for someone else. Yes, it is unique. The infant is doing beautifully.
Her mother is doing well. We are fortunate that everyone is well and residing at home.”
But Prescott’s quarterback takes the lead when it comes to dirty diapers.
“I changed the first one and two or three after that, and now I’m trying to pass that job along,” he laughed.
Prescott is entering a brave new world, joining the ranks of other Cowboys who have welcomed babies in recent months. There will be more, of course, and there will be some changes to the offseason schedule.
but less than you may imagine.
Prescott sounds prepared, which should come as no surprise to anybody who knows him at all.
“I’m a homebody much more so [now] over the latter part of the pregnancy.,” he said. I’m just trying to provide a hand as much as I can, knowing that there’s only so much I can do since the baby needs mom. But I am aware of how crucial my presence is.
“In the end, I’ve resumed my training and exercise regimen because it’s [still] the offseason. It’s a peaceful offseason and I’m enjoying it, although there are some differences in the schedule and sleep patterns grateful for that.
Everyone can agree that one thing is for sure.
Whatever happens to Prescott in his career after that, even if it does end with him lifting the illusive Lombardi trophy, won’t compare to what happened on that fateful Thursday in February 2024.
Baby MJ made her first “leap” on that day.
For Prescott, the roof is now the ceiling.
